I posted a list like this before, but now I am trying to post the same things on the same days of the week, plus that must have been a couple of months ago at least. Plus this list helps remind me how many projects I have going on right now and how I should finish these ones before starting a new one. Isn’t the fresh start of a new project always the best. Here’s to finishing what I started (because it’s the right thing to do)

WIP:

replace the other free glider rocker with a still photography area for items in the shop spot to put the TV that has been sitting on our bedroom floor for 8 months / replace our table with a sideboard / organize my craft storage. Yes, these all have been rolled into the same project, which also includes moving the DH’s “study area”/place that I never learned to never touch.

Curtains for the Bedroom

Black Curtains for the pantry closet, the bedroom closet and the bedroom entry (our apartment is really lacking in doors)

Blue Shaggy Raggy Rug for his bathroom

Pot Lid Holder made from curtain rod

Blue Crocheted Wool Wrist Warmers I’ve made one, but not the second.

finish organizing the closet

laundry, bills, dishes, dusting, cleaning and recycling (always a WIP)

replace standard bulbs with cfl’s This is mostly done, I am just waiting for the other bulbs to wear out.

replace disposable batteries with a rechargeable system

find out how to recycle more of the things we throw away

sew or buy cloth bags for shopping/for the shop

lose 10 more lbs.

finish vintage cloth measuring tapes for the shop

finish the wee wonderfuls pointy cat

We’re here in the heart of Omaha, sitting in front of a mixed media artists dream. It’s a table covered with a  paper scraps, fabrics, ribbons, buttons, paints, pencils and sandpaper. There’s even a dremel and a glue gun on hand. We are having so much fun!

Thrifty Saturday

Posted in omaha, shopping, thrift, vintage tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 11:12 am by aestheticonion

I’ve been wanting to hit the local thrift shops for quite some time and I decided to get up early this morning to do some shopping.

Exactly $14 later I walked away with 4 vintage blue glass tumblers, 8 cream colored plates, 2 black serving trays, a sunny yellow glass vase and a full length mirror. For an hour and 2 stores, I think those are some pretty great finds.

I think these glass tumblers would make awesome candle holders. Can you imagine the light reflecting off all those surfaces.

I’ve been wanting a full length mirror for a while and was just going to pick up one of those cheap plastic frame ones until I saw this for $5.

my plans are to paint the frame of the mirror black so it has a modern edge to it.

I’m trying to decide between using one of the blue glasses or the yellow vase for the april showers vintage vessel and trims swap. (If you want to signup for the swap, you have to do it by Tuesday!)

Have you been missing me?

I still exist, but I’ve been a little bit overloaded lately. Remember when I wrote this post A little bit of overlap. Well, I’m almost back down to just one job and then I’ll have more time again to devote to the blog and shop. Stay tuned for more…

It’s Valentine’s Day

Posted in books, holiday tagged , , , , , , at 9:02 am by aestheticonion

One of the first books I read as a child was It’s Valentine’s Day by Jack Prelutsky

I know, big words for a 4 year old. Truth is, I probably memorized it as my sister read it, but in my mind I was reading it word for word.

So of course the first valentine’s day my husband and I were dating, I bought him the book and read him this poem.

It’s Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s Day. And in the street
There’s freezing rain, and slush, and sleet.
The wind is fierce. The skies are gray.
I don’t think I’ll go out today.
But here inside the weather’s warm.
There is no trace of wind or storm.
And you just made the morning shine.
You said you’d be my Valentine
